Fogo Lento is a cultural association founded in 2019 to develop projects with a focus on transdisciplinary creation. Their mission is to recover artistic practice as a learning space, thanks to a physical and sensorial relationship with reality. They believe that “the adventure of being close to the things the world is made of” (Annie Albers, Black Mountain College), the relationship with body and materials, as well as the study of craft practices, which are at the origin of creative work, develop the capacity of analysis and reflection, creativity and the ability to solve problems.
Gender equality and economic and ecological sustainability of arts are two fundamental issues when defining the association's activity plan. In this sense, the association is concerned with supporting creations that, in the thematic, team composition or working method, take these issues into account.
The association's spaces are located on a farm in V.N.Gaia, and the organisers are working to turn them into a place where artistic creation, education and agriculture can be contaminated by each other. In 2021 they launched the first activity associated with their place: ESTRUME Creation Grant and they started the (Des)montar project, which includes performances, artistic residencies, workshops, meetings about artistic practices, and the redaction of a book. The association has produced two performances that are now touring: "Fogo Lento" and "Exposição" and the short film "Lapso".
