The Fish Factory Art Space
The Fish Factory is a multi-function arts space consisting of 22 artist work spaces, a gallery, cafe and a multi-use event space. It brings together people of all ages and from all walks of life in a vibrant artistic community. Studio residents are local painters, illustrators, mixed media, installation artists, graduates, printers, potters, writers and more.
The Fish Factory Arts offers a rolling programme of 2-4 week residencies at it's venue in a former sail loft in Penryn, Cornwall, South West England. Opened in 2011 by local artist Rose Hatcher, the Fish Factory has provided a forum for both Cornish emerging artists and international collaborators working in challenging and diverse mediums from interactive installations, murals, photo-montage, printmaking, music and film. The 'Fish' houses studios, an event space/independent gallery, a vegan cafe and a small shop selling work from resident artists. These diverse offerings have one thing in common: they flourish in the open and welcoming atmosphere the Fish Factory offers, a definite alternative to the corporate mainstream face of modern art today.
They are looking for artists that want to engage with the lively and varied programme of contemporary, alternative and innovative visual arts, performance and events.
There is space in the calendar to hold public events and exhibitions should it be relevant to your project, but this is not essential as they see this residency as more a way for you to develop a project, network and a chance to experience the Cornish art scene.
You are provided with a desk space in the open plan studio area, as well access to the b/w darkroom and photography studio. In addition you can take advantage of the vegan cafe (20% discount for residents), small art shop, gallery and the acoustic recording studio (by arrangement).
They can also offer you accomodation as part of your residency.
