Application guidelines:

Applicants are judged solely on the quality of their work, and not on the basis of previous education, exhibitions or awards.

Applications for the Writing Fellowship must be submitted before 15 December 2021. More info and the application form here.

Applications and new guidelines for the Visual Arts Fellowship are available here. All applications must be submitted electronically before 1 February 2022.

Eligibility: The Fellowship is open to all emerging visual artists creating two-dimensional, three-dimension and time-based work. Applicants are judged on the quality of their work. The jury disqualifies applicants it deems to be already emerged. Tenure track professors in Fine Arts who are on sabbaticals are considered ineligible. International applicants are welcome to apply. Collaborative teams may apply under one application and if selected they will only be awarded one Fellowship to share. Applicants who would like to apply as an individual artist as well as part of a collaborative team may do so if these two bodies of work are completely different and distinctive.

Artists must be in residence during their Fellowships. Absences may not exceed more than fourteen consecutive days or total more than thirty days during the seven-month Fellowship.

To provide for the establisment and maintenance of a center for artists and writers, consisiting of resident Fellows, program committee members, employees, and visiting artists, writers and patrons from all relevant fields of the arts and humanities (and) primarily dedicated to supporting emerging artists and writers at the crucial early states of the careers. Each year the Work Center provides seven-month Fellowships-the gift of time and space­-to ten artists and ten writers selected from over 1,000 applicants worldwide. From October to May, the Visual Arts Fellows receive private efficiency apartments, separate studio space and a monthly stipend of $750. Fellows pursue their work independently in a diverse and supportive community of peers.

Studio Information

Each visual arts fellow is provided with a separate studio of approximately 400 sq ft (ca. 37 sq. meters).

Accommodation Information

All Fellows are provided with an efficiency apartment that includes a kitchen and full bath. Families and partners of fellows are welcome.

Technical Information

The Fine Arts Work Center has a small Woodshop, a Printmaking Studio and a Digital Media Lab with a large format printer, editing suite and a HD camera available to Visual Arts Fellows. All Fellows are invited to have a solo exhibition at the FAWC gallery while in residence. The new library is available for Fellows to view reference materials and the work of former Fellows. The FAWC facilities are handicapped accesible.
