Farside Collective
Farside is Leh’s only artist run studio/project space working from a small house. Their modest studio is based in a small village in Leh called Sankar in Upper Karzoo.
Their works are primarily moving around contemporary arts, graphic design, photography and films, manifesting into art residencies, zine shows, exhibitions, talks, screenings and publication of art books.
Each year Farside offers short (2 weeks) & long (1-2 month) residencies for artists/writers/designers to come to Leh, live in the house and produce work around themes discussed. Open calls for both short & long term applications are made in January/February every year. Rolling applications for self-directed residencies are also considered mostly in summer (May-October). There are also short term workshops in the summer, announcements to be on the website and social media.
Since 2015, Farside organises pop-up shows in Leh Main Market selling zines, tote-bags, postcards, notebooks, badges, graphic prints, etc. They are able to offer the space as a co-working space as well.
Unlimited 24x7 access to the studio spaces, terrace, garden space etc. They have 2 studio spaces of 225 sq feet each, which will be made available to the resident artists at all times. The studios are equipped with printer, projector, workshop tools etc. WiFi is limited in Ladakh, so highly unreliable.
Living space for the whole month (July or September) in the collective's small basic studio-house in twin sharing basis. If an artist doesn’t want to share the room and what the whole room for themselves, they can request for a full room. 5 artists can be hosted at once. Groups, partners are families are welcome.
