They are a non-profit cultural association, the residency fee is intended to cover 50% of the cost of the programme's total general operating expenses. The remaining 50% is covered by the Ey!Studio Association.
The organisers are happy to write letters of recommendation and invitation for the resident to apply for grants in their home country, once the application is accepted and the booking fee has been paid.

The estimated real cost of the program is 1.200€ / week + VAT.
For this call, Ey!Studio provides a partial grant, already applied to the published participation fees, covering a significant portion of this cost.

Artist fee paid by the artist, with the Ey!Studio grant already applied:

Participation fees are structured according to the length of stay and are non-negotiable.

After the application has been accepted, Ey!Studio may issue pre-selection or letters of interest to support applications for external grants or funding. The issuance of the letter does not imply date reservation nor confirmation of participation.

Description

The Ey!Studio AiR residency program takes place at Ey!Studio, an independent creation space located in Carabanchel (Madrid), one of the city’s most active areas for contemporary artistic production. Since 2017, Ey!Studio has hosted more than 65 artists, consolidating itself as a space for work and artistic development.

The residency offers a private studio that combines accommodation and workspace in the same space, designed for independent artistic practice and individual research. Each resident manages their time, creative process, and use of the studio autonomously.

Projects developed during the residency may receive visibility through publications on Ey!Studio’s website and social media, as well as possible future participation in screenings, exhibitions, or collaborations with independent spaces at national and international levels. There is also the possibility of selling work produced during the residency through an associated online gallery.

The program is open to artists, curators, and researchers of any nationality and discipline, with a particular affinity for the visual arts.
Residencies last from 2 weeks to 3 months, with 1 to 8 residents per period, across different programs.

Outcome

A final public presentation is not required. The residency includes participation in a group exhibition, featuring one work per artist selected by the curatorial team. This is available only to artists in residence for a minimum of 4 weeks.

Accommodation Information

The studios are designed as private spaces that combine accommodation and workspace in a single unit, intended for individual artistic practice.

  • Studio 1: Approximately 20 m², with private WC in a shared bathroom.
  • Studio 2: Approximately 20 m², with a private bathroom for exclusive use.
  • Shared area: Communal kitchen.
Studio Information
  • Office: The 40 m2 space is air-conditioned and has a large dining table and an armchair for relaxing, reading, etc. The office is equipped with a fridge, microwave, two induction hobs, capsule coffee machine, kettle, toaster, and other kitchen utensils. They do not have a washing machine, although there is a laundry 9 minutes from the studio).
  • Polyvalent Space: A 40 m2 multi-purpose space. This space can be used for workshops, exhibitions, video viewings, visits by professionals, presentations of publications, etc. (If Space 3 does not have a resident artist, depending on availability, it can be used as a workspace by the other resident artists without additional payment).
Location

The residency is located in Carabanchel, a district in a full cultural boom, known as the "Soho of Madrid", where a total of 160 artists are currently working in approximately 40 studios, as well as art galleries and the Matadero Art Centre. The residency is next to Madrid Río, a leisure and recreational area around the Manzanares River, as well as being only 20 minutes from the city center by public transport.
