Endecameron
Artists with highly diversified backgrounds and approaches residing and working/playing in a beautiful but closed space behind the walls of a Renaissance castle.Seclusion and living together aim at a condensation and implosion of emotions and creative actions. All artistic modes of expression are accepted: performing arts, video art, writing&poetry, music, street art, computer art, sculpture, photography, cinema, body art etc. Their intermingling is desired and facilitated. Artistic hybrids are welcome.
Endecameron is a yearly event. Endecameron is the 11th day, the day after the Decameron, i.e. after the end of the narratives. Which stories or forms come after the end of all stories and forms? Dystopias and dystopians are key here. They provide the overall tonality and register of each event.
Endecameron 18 (last year) was built around The Masque of the Red Death (E.A. Poe). Endecameron 19 centers on "Seeing invisible cities", i.e. the cities coming after the end of all cities. Its narrative trigger: The Invisible Cities, by Italo Calvino. A final performance and ritual, open to a tiny external audience, will try to summarize the chaotic and structured actions taking place day after day. All actions, activities and art work productions are recorded. Short and medium length videos are a major byproduct of Endecameron. Effective communication (old&new media) keeps disseminating to a national audience what is being achieved year after year. Endecameron 18 got full page articles on the leading Italian newspaper (Corriere della Sera etc), Tv reports.
Endecameron 18 artists have been invited to the Triennale (Milan), the Macro Museo (Rome), and to other significant venues.

The Castle is 1000 year old, but widely redesigned during the Renaissance. Zoomorphic (scorpion shaped). A powerful fortress, and an aristocratic palace with Mannerist frescoes (1538-1548) and a weird architecture. It always hosted artists and art patrons. Recently (the Sixties): Ezra Pound, Salvador Dalì, Caresse Crosby, Peggy Guggenheim, Gregory Corso, Martin Ames, the Living Theater, Gregory Markopoulos, etc etc. Large collection of masks and native art. Site: www.roccasinibalda.it . FB: castelloroccasinibalda. Small village around the castle. Mountains, forest, lakes. A unique location, a grade I listed national monument.
