DRAWinternational is a professional centre for drawing research that has successfully run for over twenty years. They recognise that people are currently facing difficulties across the world with the high costs of living and all the challenges this brings. This has also impacted cultural centres, artist residencies and funding opportunities that have become increasingly limited.
DRAWinternational operates on a non-salaried, non-profit basis and they endeavour to keep the contribution from artists’ as low as possible.

2 month residency fee: 1, 800 euros.

Description

DRAWinternational – drawing research centre
A place of research, experimentation and the production of drawing in all its forms.
Above all, it aims to be a place to develop and reveal the various processes of contemporary drawing and to share and exchange ideas between the artist and the public.
DRAWinternational offers a unique environment for artists, theorists, and researchers to explore the intersections of art, phenomenology, and science. The centre provides well equipped studio spaces, accommodation, and research support, fostering a reflective yet innovative atmosphere for practice-led investigation.
Mission:
To cultivate a reflective, experimental, and interdisciplinary culture of drawing — as both a philosophical and material practice — connecting local contexts with global dialogues.

Outcome

They are interested in creative people who would appreciate the opportunity for sustained concentration in a supportive professional studio environment, in order to develop their artistic practice by engaging in, new perspectives, experiences and challenges.
They encourage artists to open their studios to the public at the end of the residency period.

Accommodation Information

The centre is housed in a 5-storey 15th-century building situated in the heart of Caylus, a small medieval village in SW France, a rural community with a growing number of artists and craftspeople.

The residency can cater for 3 artists at any one time.

DRAWinternational is located in the centre of a medieval village just off the market square, our newly acquired accomodation/studios spaces and gardens are 2 mins from the centre on the hillside overlooking the village.
