Description
Dear Human is the visual arts and design collaborative formed by Jasna Sokolovic and Noel O’Connell in 2010.
Jasna Sokolovic studied architecture at the University of Sarajevo and at the University of Belgrade in former Yugoslavia before immigrating to Canada during the war. She completed her studies in fine arts at Emily Carr University in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Noel O’Connell is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Madison and holds an MFA from Rhode Island School of Design. He is a Fulbright scholar in art and architecture and spent six years studying and working in art restoration and ceramics in Thailand and China.
Dear Human Ranch AIR is a creative space for artists, guests and friends to play with possibilities and materialize ideas. It is also an invitation to explore the ecosystem of the local meadows, forests and surrounding mountains.
They welcome emerging and established artists from all disciplines to develop their projects on the ranch. Residents here can be focused on research and/or production as they so choose. All residencies are self-catered and self- directed.
The Ranch gives you the chance to absorb both the natural environment and a creative atmosphere in perfect balance, to be rejuvenated and inspired without the distraction and pressures of daily life.
Outcome
The residency gives the chance to reconnect to the nature, be rejuvenated and inspired without the distraction and pressures of daily life.
It also, gives artists an opportunity to focus on a project and move their practice forward.
Accommodation Information
The residency is located between three mountains, each beautiful in its own way. Hikes are just on the doorstep, and in just 15-30 minutes drive in any direction there are lakes, good restaurants and many well-known local attractions.
The artists in residence will have sole use of the cabin, shared studio and also, can work outdoors if weather permits.
The cabin has a living room, kitchen and a bathroom on the lower level and 2 ½ small rooms on the upper. One room has a double bed and another has a single bed. Additionally, there is a small open space that can be used as a writing/drawing room.
Studio Information
The studio is about 30m2, equipped with a brand new kiln (low fire), wood stove for heating in the winter, and a CNC machine for wood and other projects. It also has the most picturesque view on to the neighbouring hill.
