Description

The Culterim Gallery provides a platform for artists participating in the interim cultural use concept of Culterim. Although, especially among up-and-coming talented artists, studio and exhibition venues are a critical issue and rare, there are vacancies across the country. The concept of Culterim tackles this mismatch by creating temporary residencies, studios and exhibition spaces in otherwise unused venues.

South of Berlin around 45 minutes by train from the central station, the manor of Dahlewitz is located on the edge of the town. In seven buildings on a plot of more than 18.000 m2 including a small forrest they will host the summer residency. The organisers are converting the manor of Dahlewitz into a temporary artist residence with studios and accommodation from 1st of May, 2024 until September the 30th, 2024.

Next to the award of studio space and accommodation, the residency program includes weekly mentored studio visits, artist presentations and talks. To cover the program, accommodation and studio costs a rate of 365€ per month is required. All studios are clean and dry, have daylight and are in a ready-to-work state. The studios are sometimes shared spaces and range between 25 and 150m2. Sanitary facilities exist in the residential building, while the protected old smithy and the residential building are communal areas for cooking and spending time together.

Terms can range between 2 and 5 months while all forms of art are welcomed. Artists have 24h access to the premises and are allowed to use the entire plot. At the end of the project, there will be a group exhibition of works created during the residency.

Outcome

The organisers want to create a free space for all artist to think, communicate, debate, create, gather, help each other and produce art without any pressure. The finished pieces will be shown at the final exhibition in Berlin in October.
