Description

coGalleries artist residency Berlin aims at stimulating exchange between international artists, curators, art organisations and art institutions. The program creates conditions for artists to succeed by offering professional support with networking, production, and presentation of their work.

Artist Residence Program Berlin is based on the strong desire to promote global exchange on burning issues of our time. It is appreciated to receive residency proposals from artists working on topics such as: Artificial Intelligence & Automation, Future of Labour, Disrupt Populism, Rotten Leadership & Post Democracy and Urban Intervention & Public Space.

The organization works closely with partnering galleries, public institutions, foundations, curators, art advisors, art organisations and visual artists within the field of contemporary arts throughout Europe, Africa, China, Brazil, USA and the Middle East.

Residency artists will meet insiders of the art world through a series of external studio visits, gallery tours, panel discussions, portfolio viewings, openings, and other art-related events. They will also have the opportunity to work with our partnered exhibition spaces in Berlin and other cities. Each artist in residence is given the opportunity to present their work in a solo exhibition at the gallery space or at private open studio events. These events will be scheduled towards the end of the resident’s stay.

Furthermore, there are activities organized such as artist-led workshops, studio visits, video screenings, artist talks, and performances, which can be hosted either at the gallery space or the studio loft.

coGalleries works to broaden its local and international network through meaningful discussions, critical feedback, and curatorial suggestions initiated by artists, researchers, and curators. Residents are assisted in realising artistically and technically complex projects and provide them a support base by helping with translations, sales, promotion and organisation. The residency is not run to make a profit and this solely covers the costs of the program.

The team has a long track record in non-commercial practices and running NGO alike structures. However, with this artist in residency program, it is strived to boost artistic careers in an economic sense as well. coGalleries brings in collectors, curators, and artists to offer support and feedback and to foster new connections. Artists will become part of Berlin’s international arts community and be seen in the art market.

The focus is rather on encouraging conversation, dialogue and exchange across disciplines. Artists from a range of backgrounds such as painting, sculpture, photography, urban art, installation, performing arts, video, literature, research-based practices, as well as curatorial projects are welcome. Artist collectives and groups are also encouraged to apply. Residents are accepted on a rolling bases.

Outcome

Each artist’s residency ends with a solo exhibition in their art gallery, located in the center of Berlin's famous gallery district.

Applicants should be willing to engage in the gallery's program and events. Also the documentation and publishing processes of works in progress, exhibitions etc. which will be shared via the different PR and social media platforms.
