Center Rog Creative Hub
Description

Center Rog Creative Hub is excited to announce the Designer in Residency Programme 2026 with this year’s topic: More Than Us. They are inviting designers, innovators, craftspeople, and makers from diverse backgrounds to explore the relationships with non-human agents — from AI to animals, plants, and other living systems — and to translate these insights into products that respond to the needs of a wider biological community. This 3,5-month residency offers an opportunity to engage with critical global topics while fostering creative responses through design.

Outcome

Proposed projects must focus on creating a physical/tangible object, material or prototype that can be produced “in situ” in one or more of their 9 production labs in Center Rog in the time of the residency stay.

Accommodation Information

Center Rog has 5 residential apartments, located on the third floor of Center Rog, measuring from 50 to 80 m2. Each apartment is equipped with a living room / workspace, kitchen, bathroom, separate bedroom and comes fully furnished. One of the apartments is bigger in size and thus intended for families, collectives, and a wheel-chair accessible bathroom.

Studio Information

The Rog factory, a symbol of the iconic Rog bicycles, is the most important piece of 20th-century industrial heritage in Ljubljana’s city centre. Thanks to both the way it was restored and the plans for its future use, the building retains its original function, updated for the 21st century: serving as a public production space for the cultural and creative industries, with an emphasis on design, architecture, engineering, craft, and applied arts.

On the ground floor, there are nine production labs (workshops) equipped with both modern computer-aided technologies and traditional workshop equipment. Each lab has a lab manager and a team of qualified technologists who help users develop their projects. Center Rog offers a unique creative environment for the implementation of innovative projects in the field of manufacturing, design, architecture, urban crafts, applied arts and cuisine. They support all sorts of creatives and makers in their endeavours to tackle the burning challenges of the 21st century.
The Rog factory, which produced the iconic Rog bicycles, is the most important piece of 20th-century industrial heritage in Ljubljana today. Owing to both the way it is being restored and the programme of Center Rog, its original function will be retained, and revamped for today’s needs. Center Rog will offer 8,500 m2 of creative space along with related programmes, and a new 8,000 m2 (edible) park available for citizens’ daily use and public events.
