Description

Cel del Nord provides a physical as well as a virtual environment, removed from the expectations of everyday life – a distraction-free, and inspiration-rich space to do extraordinary creative work.

They have an atmosphere of inclusion for artists who might have followed unconventional paths in the arts. By taking part in the programs, creative people join an expanding network of peers to connect with and seek support from them. Ce del Nord offers an evolving program of events and activities for residents and past-residents.

Vision
- A physical and virtual environment, removed from the expectations of everyday life.
- An atmosphere of inclusion for artists who might not have undertaken conventional career paths in the arts.
- A constantly expanding network of peers for our residents to connect with and seek support from.
- An evolving program of events and activities for residents and past-residents.
- Financial self-sufficiency for the organisation balanced against affordability for residents.

Purpose
- To provide a physical or virtual structure inside which creative ideas and practices can be tested, explored and expanded.
- To connect creative people so they can nurture peer-to-peer relationships.
- To support groups and individuals in finding solutions to creative blocks and hurdles through encouragement and guidance.

Values
Cel del Nord values artists based on their commitment to a creative practice above all else. For example;
- Those who have made a career of their creative practice.
- Those who have made a career of their practice even if that career doesn’t include selling art work.
- Those who commit to a practice whilst also undertaking paid work.
- Those who commit to a practice alongside caring for dependents.
- Those who have committed to a practice later in life.

Transparency
Cel del Nord is a white-European founded and run organisation. As of June 2020 they subsist on voluntary contributions, fees and donations while pursuing arts funding. They strive towards cultural sensitivity and actively seek to create a program that is inclusive of people from all backgrounds and promotes cultural racial equity. They do not consider an artist’s sales, social media following, prestige or attendance at high-brow institutions as part of their selection process.

Outcome

The plan of work does not need to be strict, can be explorative, but the resident must show some intention. Different programs have different opportunities to exhibit and interact with the community.
