Selected residents are given free reign of a one bedroom house for up to a month, which is their accomodation. Residents are allowed to bring creative and/or romantic partners as well as family, but applicants should be advised that there is only one conventional bedroom.

Selected residents will be responsible for their own food and transportation needs for the duration of their stay.

The application consists of:
1) a description of the applicant and/or their work
2) a description of what the resident would like to do during their stay at CASA PIP
3) the option to include support material in the form of a URL link and/or a PDF attachment
4) an application fee of €35

For the selection process, the organisers have recruited a jury whose opinions about cinema they really respect, and they've tasked them with evaluating the submissions in terms of their passion, their thoughtfulness, their intention to be playful or experimental, and how much the applicants will benefit from the specific openness of our residency. Description

CASA PIP Inc. consists of Canadian filmmaker Joële Walinga (Self-Portrait) and Portuguese-Canadian filmmaker Daniel Warth (Dim the Fluorescents). Together, Walinga and Warth run CASA PIP, a free residency in the mountains of Portugal which is open to anyone who works in film anywhere in the world.

Founded by filmmakers and open to anyone who works on films in any capacity anywhere in the world, CASA PIP is a residency in a remote village nestled within the Portuguese mountains. CASA PIP offers residents peace and space to work independently in any capacity they require, giving residents sole access to an entire house for periods of up to a month. CASA PIP is an unstructured, no-rules residency. Residents may use the space to write, research, edit, experiment, play, think, or rest, depending on their specific needs. There is no curriculum or structure outside of what residents choose for themselves. Residents may come alone, and they may also bring their collaborators, their family, or their friends. Residents are encouraged to use their time in whatever particular way suits them. The organisers hope that the surrounding area and the comfort of the house can provide the needed quiet time for research, writing, experimentation, reflection, and play.

Outcome

This is entirely up to the resident. The end result may be as tangible as a new script draft or as abstract as leaving with a renewed sense of inspiration.

Accommodation Information

Located in a small village in the Serra do Açor mountain range in Central Portugal, CASA PIP is a modest and peaceful, typical village house. Residents are given sole access to the entire house for periods of up to one month. The house has one bedroom, one living room, one dining room, one studio workspace, a fully equipped kitchen, one bathroom with a shower/bathtub combination, another small bathroom, a bar\cellar\workshop, and laundry facilities. The house is very quiet. For drivers, there is parking near the house. From the windows, the house looks out onto an expanse of green mountains.

Studio Information

CASA PIP has two desk spaces, as well as other tables and potential work surfaces in the house's various rooms, depending on the nature of the desired work. The house is also equipped with high-speed wireless internet.
