Accommodation Information

They offer each artist a private room and a luminous private studio space at Casa Padula, one of Padula's oldest and most stately residences. Studios range from 16 to 20 sq. meters (175 to 215 sq. ft.). Residents also have use of the large kitchen, the sunroom, il salotto verde (the green salon), library room and the extensive gardens at Casa Padula. They currently host between 3 and 5 artists at a time. They can also accommodate artist couples/pairs who wish to share living and/or working spaces.

Location

Besides spending time in your studio or the gardens of Casa Padula (which are home to the ruins of the Padula castle dating back to the 13th century), or wandering the maze of streets in the historic center around the house, you may also want to explore a little farther and wider:

  • The Certosa di San Lorenzo is a 25-minute downhill walk from Casa Padula and is the largest monastery in Southern Italy as well as one of the most interesting in Europe for its architectural magnificence and abundance of artistic treasures.
  • The Archeological Museum of the Lucania is housed inside the Certosa di San Lorenzo and has a wonderful collection of artefacts from local excavations.
  • The ruins of the ancient roman city of Cosilinum are a 4-hour round trip hike from Casa Padula on an unpaved country road through the woods. The trail leads on to the San Sepulcro church which offers breathtaking views over the valley.
  • The Eremo di San Michele can be added to the above hike or done separately and is a cave with a long history of religious use, from pre-Christianity onwards. The frescos on the walls date from the 1600s.
