Café Tissardmine
Cafe Tissardmine invites applications from artists of all disciplines for the 2021/2022 residency program. They accept applications from all disciplines. However, their supplies are limited - they run on solar power, so occasionally they are short of electricity and ask that all equipment is only charged in the day time. They have provision to show films (projector and primitive screen) but you need to provide your own computer. Generally they ask artists to bring all their supplies with them as even good quality paper is hard to find locally.
Not all practices are practical in that area – for example it is not a place for internet based research. It is a place to recharge and inspire.
Cafe Tissardmine offers up to 9 artists a 21-day residency with no specific outcome required. There are opportunities to work with children in the village and engage in village life but this is not a condition of acceptance.
Cafe Tissardmine has a new studio! Built to accommodate up to 4 artists with a separate room for exhibiting/meditating/cups of tea and chats.
Cafe Tissardmine has a four room guesthouse around a central courtyard and a bivouac of 5 tents. All rooms and tents have ensuite bathrooms. They are powered by Solar energy and bring water from a well in the nearby oasis. Living is basic and run as traditionally as possible; bed linen and pillows will be provided. The weather is, in the main, warm to cool, calm and bright but with occasional sandstorms and even rain.
At its most hot during summer (July and August) when the temperatures soar to over 50, Tissardmine is closed
Not all disciplines are practical in the Sahara – for example it is not a place for internet based research. It is a place to recharge and inspire.
