BULK SPACE is offering limited needs-based scholarships to a limited amount of artists per season. Artists awarded scholarships must be willing and able to present a public program or hands-on workshop to the community. If you are able to pay the full amount please do so, and help the residency organisers continue to offer low-cost or no-cost programming to others.
If you are not in need of a scholarship but are seeking grants or outside funding BULK SPACE is happy to write letters of support for artists applying for funding to participate in this program.

Ideation residency is a three month program paid for by participating artists and is sliding scale at $500-$1000 per month.

BULK SPACE IDEATION RESIDENCY
Description

BULK SPACE is a collective dedicated to uplifting the works of marginalized artists in taking up physical and digital space. They understand first hand the needs of marginalized artists and are committed to building platforms for success via community conversation, exhibitions, and performances in which they identify and develop resources for all of their participants.

The Ideation Residency welcomes and encourages creative practitioners from around the world to come & explore new ideas, expand project goals and connect with other artists. An artist-retreat and residency program centered around providing marginalized artists space for them to ideate on their creative practice and projects. The Ideation Residency encourages creative practitioners to explore new ideas, expand project goals and connect with artists from around the world.
 

Transparency Statement: This new residency program is the first program that BULK presents where they are requesting a fee. These fees help them pay for the staff and resources they need in order to operate their program while allowing them to continue offering various free programs for marginalized artists. The Ideation Residency is open to artists from anywhere in the world. This specific program is paid for by individual artists and is sliding scale of $500-$1000 per month.

Outcome

This is a self-driven residency that provides artists with:

  • Time and Space to work on your creative practices
  • Access to a private bedroom, shared bathroom, kitchen, sunroom, outdoor space and laundry
  • Access to a two person shared in-house studio space with a desk to work
  • Two studio visits a curator or arts professional
  • One Studio visit with a BULK member during your residency
  • The opportunity to spend meaningful time in Detroit
