Description

4-week AiR in a creative playground in central Portugal to develop a large format printmaking project. Aviário Studio Large Format Printmaking Residency is open to both artists working in large format or artists willing to develop new work on a larger scale using Printmaking techniques, such as relief, intaglio, screen printing, transfer, and monotype.

During the AIR, artists will have access to technical assistance and weekly project discussions in order to better achieve their intents.

Outcome

On the last Saturday of the residency at the Cultural Center of Ferreira do Zêzere there will be an exhibition with all the works resulting from the residency. They are open to discussing the possibilities for participating artists to give a workshop, have a presentation, or another kind of event.

Studio Information

Aviário Studio is a creative playground located in the center of Portugal, immersed in nature and just 2 km away from the town Ferreira do Zêzere. The studio has 6 rooms in total, each one about 100 meters square:

  • 1 common room with kitchen and 3 toilets (one adapted for people with reduced mobility)
  • 4 workshops:
    • 2 are equipped to work images: silkscreen, printmaking, digital work, drawing, and bookbinding
    • 2 are equipped to work object: wood, metal and ceramics
  • 1 room for the development of projects with irregular dimensions and/or materials.
Accommodation Information

Artists will be hosted in a shared house in the center of Ferreira do Zêzere, 2 km/1,24 mi away from Aviário Studio. The house is on the ground floor, and has three double bedrooms, a living room, a bathroom and a toilet, a fully-equipped kitchen, and some outside space. Each artist has clean sheets and towels each week. There is wi-fi in the house. There are four bicycles to share. Each weekday there is a ride from the house to the studio at 10 a.m. and a ride back to the home from the studio at 6 p.m.

Location

Aviário Studio is a creative hub in central Portugal. The studios are located in an old renovated aviary, surrounded by nature, 2 km away from the center of Ferreira do Zêzere.
