Successful applicants are charged a residency fee. Successful applicants will be responsible for all other costs including travel cost, transport, food, insurance and art materials. The organizer can assist you to find and prepare material beforehand, just let them know in advance.
Program fees (including deposit/registration fee 1200 SEK):

  • 8800 SEK/month for 1 person: single room with shared bathroom and kitchen + studiospace or 2200 SEK/week
  • 10700 SEK/month for 2 persons: double room, shared bathroom and kitchen + studiospace

Short term visitors 400 SEK/night.

  • In the selection process emphasis is put on the applicant's work/projects, creative ideas and approach. They are looking for emerging and professional artists from different fields and backgrounds and also keep some positions open for creatives without remarkably long CV. In this case, the proposed idea of the applicant has a more significant importance. Applications will be judged on the basis of CVs and portfolios submitted.
  • Artists can choose between offering workshops, attending the yearly art-exhibition, open-art events or art-talks during their stay.

Ateljé A-M welcomes and offers artists from all artistic disciplines, all over the world, a place where you can test new ideas, develop your work and above all find the tranquility you need to explore and develop your work. They will support your development of bright new ideas and offer you the conditions you need for your artistic purpose. You may work alone or share your progress and experiences with others.There are possibilitie to be in charge of workshops, open-art events and art-talks. At the end of the year each artist can take part in a group exhibition in the nearest town, Lycksele.
Each artist will have the opportunity to develop his or her project within the following fields: Visual arts, literary arts, performing arts, textile, research, scultpure, design and environmental work.

The programme will support practising artists in their work and development of projects in various fields. At the residency they offer a place where to embrace and explore one of the four magic seasons of the South of Lapland, Sweden. The studio provides light and space and and enough room to work as a group. There are also possibilities to work in separate, smaller spaces.

Next to the residency there is a shop where you can find daily everyday consumer goods, such as food and toiletries etc. There is a restaurant 10 km from the residence where you can have lunch and sometimes dinner. If you don’t have a car it is possible to take the bus to travel in the region and to the closest towns. However, the organizers can offer the artists a ride by car to Lycksele or Umeå (the closest bigger towns) three times a week.
You will have access to bicycles and there are skiing and skating possibilities according to season. The organizers can organize to go fishing in the lake and prepare the fish, smoke and grill; and also they can offer other tours according to the needs and interests of the artists.


Unless otherwise specified the physical outcome is not mandatory, however the hosts are delighted to facilitate and stage exhibitions, lectures, community outreach programmes if this is desired by the applicants. Please let the hosts know when applying.

Studio Information

There is one big, bright studio, with approximately 7 meters high ceiling, a big loft with view over the studio. There are several places outside in the garden. In the basement there are several rooms to work in. At the residency you have access to 6 hectares of woodlands which reaches from the Woolf creek to Örträsk-lake. The residency is situated in the South of Lapland where space and tranquility is the richest resource and privilege.

Accommodation Information

There are three rooms, all of them big enough to be also used as studios. One room can host a family. Shared kitchen and bathroom, washing machine. Linen and towels are provided. The residency can provide a big Nordic tipi to make it easier to work outside.


The setting of the residency is rural and tranquil. Other benefits with the residency are the different seasons. The seasons offer everything between silent polar day and night with bright sky, aurora borealis and crispy air to snowy, windy or rainy days, whereas in spring and summer the midnight sun makes the working time available through day and night.
