Description

Asia Culture Center (ACC) located in Gwangju, South Korea, is an international arts and cultural exchange organization that produces new, future-oriented results through the convergence of Asia’s past and present arts and culture with innovative ideas and beliefs. Having the context of artistically sublimating the significance of the May 18th Democratic Movement’s human rights and peace as its point of departure, the ACC, which opened in November 2015, is a Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism–an affiliated institution established for the advancement of mutual understanding and cooperative growth with different Asian countries through the exchange, education, research, and other efforts with regard to Asian culture.

The ACC plays the role of an integrated platform for participants from Asia and the rest of the world to freely unite and exchange their ideas while transcending boundaries in carrying out the steps of research, creation, and production. At the ACC, diverse and dynamic programs (exhibitions, performances, education, festivals, and other events) using collected research data, resources, etc., are held year-round with the creative output of experts from various fields who have exchanged their creativity and ingenuity with one another.

Through the residency program ACC_R, the ACC selects cultural creators and producers, researchers (scholars), and artists from around the world through international open calls, and provides them access to facilities, assistance, networking programs, etc., so they can freely realize their ideas and achieve new results expanding their genres and areas. In addition to the residency, there are lectures, workshops, research tours, and professional mentor matching that will stimulate exchange and deeper thinking and inspire participants to come up with differentiated outcomes.

Asia Culture Center (ACC) is seeking participants for ACC Residency 2023. ACC has been organizing international residency programs not just as a form of artistic support policy, but a superlative creation/production program to produce novel and diverse content with creative talents from all over the world. This year, the residency will be held in collaboration with ACC Sound Art Lab under the theme “Futures of Listening” which is also a long-term project led by ACC Sound Art Lab.

As part of the collaboration, the two programs will be jointly organizing creative support programs for participants including talks and workshops by four world-renowned soundscape experts. Taking part in these, residency participants are to develop and present concepts for individual projects exploring the theme. This will be followed by the actual production and realization of the project, culminating in a final showcase exhibition in November.

The ACC Residency call is intended for researchers and creators who have worked in the fields of art (all genres), humanities/social sciences, and science/technology. Even those who have never worked in the soundscape genre before are welcome to participate. The selection will focus on those who demonstrate an open mindset toward the creation/production program, share novel and diverse projects, and have the capabilities to realize their ideas with a final creative product.
