Airfare to and from Havana, Cuba; residency fees, meal costs, and incidental expenses incurred in the course of the residency will be the responsibility of the artist.

Letters of invitation can be provided in case you wish to apply for outside funding to cover residency fees and associated expenses.

The cost of the residence must be paid 50% via wire at the moment of acceptance of the residence, then 50% in cash upon arrival. Contact [email protected] for breakdown of residency fees and suggested meal and incidental budgets.

Application guidelines:

Individuals artists, researchers and curators, collectives or groups may apply. Applicants must be over 18 years old and be able to prove experience in any contemporary art discipline. Proposals for new projects and works in progress will be considered equally. Max 4 residents per program with projects within the field of contemporary art.

Interested artists/researchers should prepare the following information to be sent to [email protected]:
-Curriculum Vitae listing relevant training and experience.
-Scan of Passport with an expiration date no sooner than three month after the final day of Residency.
-Images, pages of previous works or productions, links to videos (YouTube, Vimeo, Instagram, etc.)
-Proposal for project to be mentored, produce, exhibited or researched, or about the film to be screened at the Residency.

Please include in your proposal:
-Proposed travel dates, and outline of milestones.
-Dossier of the art, film, work in progress or research project.
-Media files (drawings, renders, video links, trailers, or reference images).
-Timeframe and space requirements of your presentation, technical requirements, and materials to be used during your stay.
-Any special features of the project.

Description

Arthaus Residency for international artists and curators hosts since 2016, research, production and exhibition programs in Havana, Cuba, to advance the selected artists’ professional and artistic development by offering a space for creative practice and experimentation, with the guidance and support of the Residency’s staff and associates.

They organize monthly events and regularly coordinate collective art projects with a wide network of local artists and art spaces. Participants are encouraged to collaborate with local art professionals, propose talks and workshops, and learn about the sociocultural scenario in Cuba.

Each project is carried out from practice, essay, production and research, ending with a final presentation to the local audience.

The artists in residence will live in a Colonial house, where their work and exhibition space is located.

Outcome

Proposed activities during the residency:
-Development and production of the project proposed by each resident.
-Meetings open to the community, which may include portfolio reviews / exchanges, presentation of previous work, and topical lectures / presentations.
-Visits to cultural spaces and workshops of Cuban artists.
-Participation in seminars, open talks and any other activities proposed by Arthaus and other activities.
-Final presentation of each project developed in the course of the residency program.

-Private studio with two single beds, bathroom en suite, work space, kitchen and its own entrance
-Private room with double bed and a private bathroom en suite
-Private room with double bed and a full bathroom (house main bathroom, not en suite)
-Shared room with two single beds and a private bathroom en suite

Common areas:
Joint work space with office supplies and laptops available
Shared kitchen with basic menage
Main dining room
Cuban-style patio with bar and guests bathroom
Gated porch (portal) with plants and benches

Technical Information

Each resident will be offered:
-Accommodation in single or shared rooms.
-Work and meeting space.
-Space for exhibition of their projects.
Use of media production equipment (projectors, cameras, lights, video editing suite, etc.)
-Technical and curatorial assistance for the development of their projects, for preparing a workshop and/or public presentation for local audiences.
-Visits to Cuban art galleries and artist studios.
-Invitations to artist talks and workshops when possible.

Available for a fee:
-Dedicated Spanish-English translator (otherwise residency staff can help).
-Transportation to/from Havana Airport.
-Wifi is available at the residency for a fee.

Groups, partners and family are welcome too.
