Description
The Art Box Residency Centre is an independent, interdisciplinary residency programme based in Novi Sad and Petrovaradin, Serbia. It provides space and time for artists, curators, writers, researchers, translators, journalists, scholars, and other cultural practitioners to develop artistic projects, conduct research, write, experiment, and engage with the local cultural context.
The residency is open to artists at different stages of their careers, from emerging to established practitioners. It is intended for artists with an academic background in the arts or a related field and is not open to students.
Applications by women artists are particularly encouraged.
ART BOX offers two residency locations: a separate studio in Petrovaradin, on the slopes of Fruška Gora, and a fully equipped apartment in Novi Sad. Depending on the location and project, residencies range from short stays of up to seven days to longer stays of one week to three months.
Residents are encouraged to work independently while also engaging in exchange with the local artistic and cultural community. The residency may support the development of new work, research, writing, publications, presentations, workshops, lectures, discussions, or other forms of public programme.
Outcome
The residency's outcome depends on the resident’s practice and the proposed project. The residency provides time and space for artistic research, writing, development of new work, experimentation and reflection.
Depending on the project, the residency may result in an artwork, body of research, text or publication, presentation, workshop, lecture, discussion or other public programme.
The residency can also provide opportunities for professional exchange, knowledge sharing and future collaboration.
Accommodation Information
ART BOX offers two accommodation options in Novi Sad and Petrovaradin.
The Petrovaradin residency is located in a 150 m² house on the slopes of Fruška Gora, approximately 5 km from the centre of Novi Sad. Residents stay in a separate 36 m² studio and have access to the shared facilities of the house, including a kitchen, bathroom, living room, and a 1,000 m² garden. The studio is equipped with Wi-Fi and accommodates one artist or an artistic couple.
The second accommodation option is a fully equipped two-room apartment in a newly built residential building in Novi Sad. The apartment includes a kitchen, bathroom, terrace, and Wi-Fi, and can accommodate one artist or two people. Residents staying in the Novi Sad apartment may, subject to prior arrangement and an additional fee, also use the studio of a partner organisation for work and research purposes.
Studio Information
The Art Box studio is a separate 36 m² space within the residency house in Petrovaradin, on the slopes of Fruška Gora, approximately 5 km from the centre of Novi Sad. Equipped with Wi-Fi, it is primarily intended for artists, curators, theorists, and researchers and can accommodate one artist or an artistic couple.
Residents have access to the shared facilities of the house, including a kitchen, bathroom, living room and a 1,000 m² garden. Stays at this location are available for up to seven days and may also include workshops, seminars and other daytime programmes.
Technical Information
There is no equipment in the studios, except a laptop computer.
