Description

APRE Art House was founded in 2016 by Ms. Prerna Jain. The Gallery was formalized in the year of 2021 and shifted into a new exhibition space in Colaba in 2022. APRE has held several exhibitions across New York, New Delhi, and Mumbai. The Gallery also runs an Artist Residency Programme at a 10,000 sq. ft. Facility in Mumbai. For its inaugural exhibition in Colaba, Shadow Lands, the Gallery executed a programme of Theatre, Studio Visit, Film Screenings, Slam Poetry, walkthroughs, and discussions. Since, every show is accompanied by a series of lectures, educational engagements, experimental workshops, and special events that foster a passion for contemporary art.

APRE came about as the fruition of Ms. Jain’s long-term vision to contribute to the diverse and multi-layered space of modern and contemporary art, and to create an innovative platform for its understanding and outreach both nationally and globally. The Gallery is a two-floored independent structure, with a terrace that is used for the promotion of various interdisciplinary practices.

The gallery has a dynamic schedule of exhibitions throughout the year. The Art House is envisioned as not just a gallery, but a platform to build networks of support and strengthen stakeholder relationships through professional channels. In contextualizing and addressing the crucial needs in the arts sector, the gallery aims to integrate itself and provide stability within a constantly morphing socio-cultural topography.

APRE offers art enthusiasts and connoisseurs the opportunity to engage with a meticulously selected range of art in diverse mediums and styles. APRE aims to promote a plural arts culture through regular physical and virtual showcases while also continuing to develop public programming. The Gallery hosts various programmes including: The White Table Editions, From The Studio, and Interims. It also offers support to its artists through Residency Programmes, mentorship programmes, legal support, and international presence management.

APRE Art House works to continuously build and grow a network of artists, patrons, and collaborators in order to magnify the outreach of the arts and facilitate newer definitions of art practice and viewership.

APRE Art House is committed to supporting emerging art practitioners and in lieu of its this commitment, the Gallery is pleased to announce its second edition of the Artist Residency Programme 2023 under APRE Edu. The Program offers eight artists an opportunity to explore beyond their existing ecosystems through collaboration with artists from diverse backgrounds. The duration of the programme is 8 weeks, during which the resident artist will be encouraged to exchange ideas, have discussions and experience the dynamic art culture of Mumbai. The programme encourages multi-disciplinary practices to engage with the Gallery.

The Programme will involve discussions and mentorship from the Director, Ms. Jain and from various curators that align with the Artist’s practice, providing key insights into the artist’s practice. We try to align each artist’s practice with specific curators and ask the artist to fill out the application form accordingly.

Resident Artists will get the opportunity to be considered to be a part of the Gallery's upcoming shows depending on the overarching theme of the same.

The Residency Structure for the 8-week Programme:

Artist- Curator Guidance Meet
Gallery Director Visits
APRE Art House Gallery Visit
Open Studio Visit

Lectures (depending on expert availability):
Market Guidance and Portfolio Development
Social Media Marketing Guidance
Conservation and Packing
Legal Considerations

Presentation:
Artist Presentation
Open Studio (Live or on the ground)
Opportunity for Gallery Display

The resident artist will be encouraged to exchange ideas, have discussions, and experience the dynamic art culture of Mumbai. The program aims to foster dialogue with the local community and explore possibilities and the development of the artist’s practice through different modules, regular mentorship, and feedback from the Gallery Director, Ms. Prerna Jain, and various experts and curators.

Outcome

The Artist is requested to submit an outline of what they would like to achieve at the time so the Gallery can align its efforts with the Artist to achieve the same. The Gallery will provide access to academic papers and literature from the Gallery Library that aligns with the Artist’s practice. There will be open studio visits (as per season’s conditions), to gain exposure and feedback from a wider set of audience.

Studio Information

The residency is facilitated in a 10,000 sq. ft. property based in Sakinaka, Mumbai. Each artist will have an area of around 2,500 sq. ft. to themselves. The space is close to the airport and 7 minutes away from the metro, providing connectivity to the city. The terrace of the facility overlooks the sight of the city line with open skies. The accommodation largely focuses on studio space while having access to basic facilities for day–to–day living.
