Description

Amant is a non-profit arts organization in Brooklyn, New York founded in 2019. They are a non-collecting institution that fosters experimentation and dialogue through exhibitions, public programs, and artist residencies.

Their aim is to slow down art-making processes so that residents and exhibiting artists can experiment with formats and reflect on the meaning and contexts of their work. They support both established and mid-career international and local artists who work across diverse creative fields. They are committed to building cultural partnerships with like-minded organizations in the US and abroad, while activating new and ongoing conversations with our local communities.

The Studio & Research Residency Program in NY awards artists from around the world with research-oriented residencies in its campus in Brooklyn. Following Amant’s aim of slowing-down the art-making process, they provide artists with space, resources, and guidance to support long-term research projects and archival work. Their programme welcomes experimental practices in visual arts, cultural theory, performance, filmmaking, and writing.

The residents form a central part of Amant’s dynamic multidisciplinary programming.

The Studio & Research Residency Program places a special emphasis on thinking alongside narratives that have not been validated, interpreted, or recorded by art history and history, fostering an active dialogue with local organizations and communities, art professionals, and cultural producers at large. Above all else, Amant is committed to providing residents with the time and support they need to experiment.

Outcome

Amant provides an environment for researching, experimenting, and sharing ideas. They encourage artists to use their time at Amant to get deep into a research project. They will introduce them to practitioners and scholars relevant to their artistic processes and facilitate access to institutions and sources. They will also benefit from our regular program of exhibitions, performances, and events.

Their studios have limited capacity and thus are not intended for the production and construction of large projects.

They require residents to utilize their studios at least 25 hours per week.
