Alê Espaço de Arte
Founded in 2012 by visual artist Alexandra Ungern, Alê Espaço de Arte was born as a new proposal in the contemporary art scene. Its objective is to provide a laboratory, open to the public, for artistic and curatorial experiments. In addition to being an alternative to existing institutions, this space in Brooklin, south zone, is part of the field of visual arts with the implementation of courses, lectures, conversations, exhibitions and artistic residencies.
The space has already sponsored several exhibitions with free entry and also offers artistic guidance for artists, and courses in digital photography, monotype, painting, mosaic and watercolor, among others. It has an artistic residency program where the artist has the opportunity to expand their research with partner curators.
O Alê Espaço de Arte located in São Paulo, promotes an artistic residency program that offers space and resources for artists to develop their projects in an inspiring and vibrant environment, providing the opportunity for total immersion in the creative process and local culture. Furthermore, there is the possibility of sharing and interacting with other artists, curators and other art spaces, promoting an enriching and collaborative dialogue.
The artistic residency project aims to provide artists with an opportunity to expand their research, take risks, share and realize new ideas. The artist-in-residence receives a set-up studio and the support of the team. During this period, participants are encouraged to share their ideas and immerse themselves in the cultural scene of the city of São Paulo. The research can be monitored by one of our supervisors: Alexandra Ungern, Isabel Villalba or Paulo Gallina.
The result of the artistic research will be displayed in the residency's space and all works produced during the residency are the property of the artist.
The resident artist receives a studio set up and support of the team who will monitor the project, indicate places where to find research material, make contact with other artists, studios, galleries and recommend cultural events.
There is the possibility of staying in a shared apartment in front of the space, where the artists can easily travel on foot to their work studio or even access public transport just a few minutes' walk if they want to explore the city.
The apartment is 78 m2 / quiet street in Brooklin / shop next door / Subway: 350m / terrace / 2 bedrooms - 1 suite + full bathroom (the second bedroom is used by the owner as a storage room and is closed) / furnished / laundry room with washing machine /kitchen with microwave, refrigerator, stove, toaster, blender and all other utensils/ large living room, wifi /swimming pool and playground in the building/ party room/ garage with 2 fixed spaces.
The Space is located in the Brooklin neighborhood, has easy access to the subway and buses to all locations in São Paulo and is full of houses, buildings, stores, markets, and a large chain specializing in art items, just two blocks from Alê Art Space. An interesting historical fact about this neighborhood is that at the end of the 19th century, a train line where wagons were pulled by pack animals passed through here and connected the center of São Paulo to the then municipality of Santo Amaro.
