Application guidelines:

If you are an artist or company and you're interested in applying for a residency at 101 in the future, please fill out the residency questionnaire to give them a good sense of your project idea and your requirements. The organisers know that often you may not have clear answers in the early stages of a project, so please just give them as much info as you can. If you have any questions - get in touch with Tara Williams, 101 Projects Officer [[email protected]].

COVID 19 update: They have been open since July last year and have been working with companies & artists to create opportunities for the development of work to continue in a safe and considered environment. Description

Based on the former USAF Greenham Common cruise missile base, this 20,000sqft warehouse space with on-site fabrication, accommodation and rehearsal facilities is the UK’s major centre for artistic residencies, creation of new work for public spaces and innovation in site-specific and outdoor performance.

They host a year-round programme of artistic residencies for companies and individuals making work for the outdoors and public places. Their resident artists and companies come from a wide range of arts, theatre and performance disciplines. A residency can explore any stage of the development of ideas, from the early stages of research and development, to making or producing a piece of work.

101 offers free use of its available spaces to artists during residences. It offers accommodation in a number of refurbished vintage caravans on-site. They can also offer aspects of technical support and equipment within theirr existing resources. 101 is a hub for information and advice and they are always very willing to share contacts, skills and experience with artists. The space is flexible but it can get cold in winter.

101 offers residency opportunities to selected professional companies producing high quality outdoor arts work. There is no formal application process – the programme is curated and the choice of companies reflects the organisations' interests and the range of work they seek to develop. You can write to them with a proposal or contact them for an informal discussion. Due to significant initial interest they anticipate the number of artists seeking residencies to far exceed the space available in the calendar.

Outcome

The organisers can help to support scratch performances or work in progress showings either in the space or within Newbury.

Accommodation Information

In February 2018 they had 15 purpose built accommodation cabins installed directly next to 101 – all are en-suite with small double beds (couples can share). One cabin is also a wheelchair accessible cabin. If your company exceeds 15, then they do have some single beds available that can be installed in the cabins, should members of your company be happy to twin.

Technical Information

On their website you can find a list of the technical equipment they have available for use while here at 101. Please note: some tech may not be on site at all times and they do have access to other equipment not on the list, so do make 101 staff aware of all your requirements in advance.
