Do It Yourself
Call for artists
You are looking for artists to participate in your festival, exhibition, contest, creative collective, art project?
You can promote your call for artists here by creating and publishing yourself an article. Please note that it can take up to 72 hours for the ads to be published on the website – sometimes a bit longer during the weekend. There is no cost linked to this service.
If you run an artist in residency program and you would like to promote your open call please send an email to our editor-in-chief.
*Note: in this new website, you have the possibility to enter an address to show your call on the map. The address is not published on the listing. If you do not want to place your exact address, but still want to appear on the map, put a close-by address (such as Dam square for a call in Amsterdam, the Netherlands).
The Do-It-Yourself system is NOT for residency opportunities - it is for everything else but residency opportunities. DutchCulture | TransArtists checks the residency calls published on our website, and therefore there is an editorial choice about artist-in-residence opportunities.
What to do if you want to publish your call for artist-in-residence ?
- If your organisation is listed in our database, please go to your listing and use the webform "Update my listing" in the right column of the listing to give us information. We will update the listing (and the deadline, of course)
- If your organisation is not listed, please consider joining the database if you offer a regular opportunity (more than only once).
- And in any case, send us your open call via email to email@example.com!
The most personal experience can become the universal; the worst experience can teach us a big lesson, while the best experience can confirm our expectations and/or make us lazy, anything is possible when everything is personal. On TransArtists.org we embrace the honesty about how you lived and worked in a certain artist in residence place; that helps the team of TransArtists and our (website) audience to gain deeper knowledge into the reality of what it actually means to go and work in an artist in residence place around the world.
There is no better way to learn the do’s and don’ts, how, what, why and why not about an artist in residence programme than to hear about the experience from your fellow artists/curators/researchers. DutchCulture | TransArtists has developed a new format for sharing your experiences – on the right side of each artist in residence listing you will fnd the form called "Add your experience". All you need to do is to find the residency in the TransArtists database, fill in the form, include an image of your work and we’ll take care of the rest.
We encourage and expect all your different levels of experience: working, living, emotional, rational and irrational, utopian and dystopian etc. Please take into consideration this is NOT a review of that particular residency, rather your own view of that experience, thus no spoilers please. Also, please note that it can take up to 72 hours for the experiences to be published on the website – sometimes a bit longer during the weekend. There is no cost linked to this service.
Artist-in-residence programs are not the only way to stay and work abroad. Did you ever consider a temporary international studio swap? A good way for artists to help out other artists is to use this free posting board to find a temporary studio offer, close-by or abroad – as well as to swap or rent your own studio. Please note that this concerns mainly working space and not accommodation.
When placing an ad about a studio space, make sure to mention if you are looking for or offering a studio, if it includes accommodation, what kind of disciplines can be practiced there and when the studio is available.

*Note: in this new website, you have the possibility to enter an address to show your offer/wanted on the map. The address is not published on the listing. If you do not want to place your exact address, but still want to appear on the map, put a close-by address (such as Dam square for a studio in Amsterdam, the Netherlands).
Remove an ad
The ads will be removed automatically 3 months after posting. In case you would like to remove your ad earlier, please send us an email with the title of the ad and “remove ad” in email subject. Thank you very much in advance!
