AIR Celeia 2019

The Centre for Contemporary Arts Celje is a non-profit organization founded in 2004 with the main mission to initiate, develop and promote contemporary visual art in the local, regional and international context, as well as to re-articulate and re-contextualize the heritage of the local artistic practices that form the foundations of the Centre’s activity. As it is situated merely an hour from the capital city of Ljubljana, and is one of the most representative institutions for the production and display of the contemporary visual arts in Slovenia, the Centre represents a creative hub devoted to art, culture and theory, and is well-versed in the specific conditions of the current social political, and economic situation. The Centre of Contemporary Arts Celje consists of three exhibition venues in the downtown Celje area: Gallery of Contemporary Art (since 1993), Likovni salon (Likovni Salon Gallery, since 1963) and Galerija Racka (Racka Gallery, since 2006).

During their two-month residential stay, the selected curator will be expected to prepare a concept for a curatorial project that will be realized in the Center for Contemporary Arts in 2020. The Center for Contemporary arts will arrange for the curator to connect with the city, to become well acquainted with the local artistic community and will offer the necessary support in the realization of the curatorial project.

The selected curator will be offered a two-month stay in a residential flat (which is located in the city centre in the immediate vicinity of the Center for Contemporary Arts and the local artistic district; the residence includes kitchen, studio, bedroom, bathroom and Internet), a grant of € 600 per month and a royalty payment of € 1000 after the realization of the curatorial project. Travel costs are not included. Residency plan:

  • Two-month residency dedicated to research and study (between January and December 2019)
  • A concept for the curatorial project is prepared by the curator in written form within two months after finishing the residency (January–February 2020)
