Full and Partial funding is offered for monthly communal and summer individual Residents, including full fellowships for Visual Artists Affected by Natural Disasters, LGBTQ artists, Playwrights, in addition to merit and need based funding.

Communal Residencies are $800 for the 3 1/2 week stay. Individual residencies vary by cottage. Please consult the listings on their website for a full breakdown of costs.

Description

Byrdcliffe Artist Residencies offer uninterrupted time and space for creatives in all disciplines. The serene mountain community is 2.5 hours north of NYC in Woodstock NY with residencies open to individuals, teams, and couples at all stages of their career. Byrdcliffe’s AiR program is particularly beneficial to those who find it restorative to live in a community environment surrounded by natural beauty. Artists are invited to participate in optional programming such as open studios, wellness workshops, studio visits, field trips, and communal dinners, or are free to work in solitude during their entire stay.

Accommodation Information

Individual 2-5 month Residents live in one of Byrdcliffe’s eight private cabins as an autonomous live/work space. Communal 3 1/2 week Residents are given a private room in one of our 3 communal housing options. Communal Residents in the visual arts are provided with an additional studio space.

Studio Information

Residents in the Individual program have work space within their cottages. Residents in the Communal program have a private bedroom and workspace. Additional visual arts studios are assigned based off application. Ceramic facilities include wheels, slab rollers, electric and wood fire kilns. There are looms on the premises for weaving residents. The visual art studios can accommodate a wide variety of disciplines.

Technical Information

All residents are assigned a private room and studio in either the Villetta Inn or Eastover, both historic rustic buildings built in 1903. Accommodations vary in size and availability. There is a computer with internet access for residents to use, and WiFi is available in most areas of the colony.
