Fellowships are available to offset all or part of the fee based on financial need. No one should be discouraged from applying on financial grounds. The Fellowship form (optional form within the Artist in Residence Application) is due simultaneously with the application for residence.

Paid by artist 

A non refundable processing fee of $40 (US) is required with each application.
Byrdcliffe's residency fee is $650 per artist per session. Artists are accepted for residence solely according to merit.

Woodstock Byrdcliffe Artist in Residence Program


The Byrdcliffe Artist in Residence Program provides uninterrupted time, creative space and an inspiring environment to artists of exceptional talent. Month long residencies are available to visual artists, composers, playwrights/screenwriters, and writers of fiction, nonfiction and poetry in the months of June, July, August, and September. It is Byrdcliffe's mission to provide solitude in a creative community and uninterrupted time in which to concentrate on producing independent and enduring creative work alongside fellow artists.
Opened in 1903, the Byrdcliffe Art Colony was placed on the National Register of Historic Sites in 1979 for its architectural and historical significance. 

Accommodation Information 

All residents are assigned a private room and studio. Both Byrdcliffe residence buildings offer communal living, dining and kitchen facilities. There are also many bathrooms available in each building.

Studio Information 

There are 6 visual arts studios and 8 studios for writers, poets, playwrights or composers available.

Technical Information 

All residents are assigned a private room and studio in either the Villetta Inn or Eastover, both historic rustic buildings built in 1903. Accommodations vary in size and availability. There is a computer with internet access for residents to use, and WiFi is available in most areas of the colony.
