The hosts pick up the residents at the Hinwil train station, and each resident receives a free rail pass, good for one day’s travel, to Zurich or the surrounding areas. In addition, they organize a weekly communal dinner.

Paid by artist:

Weekly fee: CHF 25.- (€15.-) This fee does not include food, telephone calls, printing, faxing or copying. Guests are also responsible for all travel costs. Please inquire about bursaries.

⚠️ Because of the pandemic and its financial impact on many translators, Translation House Looren has decided not to charge any residency fees at the moment.

Application guidelines:

In order to be considered for a residency you must be a literary translator with at least one substantial published work; and you must be under contract for your current project.

Online applications are welcome via the website www.looren.net. In conjunction with the application form they request the applicant's curriculum vitae, project description, motivation letter and a copy of the publishing contract.

Description

The Translation House Looren opened its doors in 2005 and offers literary translators from around the world residencies of varying length. The House is open year-round, and translators working in all language combinations are welcome.
In the past, the House - built in the 1950s - has served both as a private residence and as a publishing house for the Albert Züst Company. It has been completely renovated and equipped with modern appliances.

Technical Information

A library of several thousand volumes, primarily reference works and dictionaries, is available to residents around the clock. In addition, the Translator house subscribes to magazines in several languages. On-line catalogue

The rural location of the Translation house offers ideal working conditions and a fantastic view of Lake Zurich and the Alps. Zurich can be reached by public transportation in one hour.
