  • A residency fee in accordance with the CQAM’s Media Arts Fee Schedule ($ 1 350 CAD)
  • A production budget covering professional technical assistance fees and / or supplies directly related to the residency project (up to $ 600 CAD)
  • A travel and accommodation budget, if necessary, and according to certain restrictions established by the center
  • Access to the center’s equipment
  • The possibility to take part in training workshops offered by the center
  • The possibility to conduct an educational workshop
  • A public presentation of the residency project
  • An author’s text and a video capsule featuring the artist’s approach and the work produced in residence
  • The opportunity to participate in the XX Files radio show on CKUT
Paid by artist 

Residencies do not include travel costs, accomodation, neither per diem. The artist is responsible for her living arrangements while in Montreal.

Application guidelines 

Please send your application as a single PDF file (5 MB max.) to: appel@studioxx.org. The files can be written in French or in English. Applications can be individual or collective. In one PDF file (5 MB), provide the following information:

  • Personal details: Name of the artist or representative; Address; Phone number; Email Address; Website
  • Residency project: Title; Type of media (i.e. virtual reality, 3D printing, video, etc.); Stage of the project on, post-production, new iteration of an existing piece) at the time of this proposal; Proposal (500 words max.); Relevance to the Slow Tech theme (100 words max.); Relevance to the Studio XX mandate (100 words max.); Technical requirements (equipment required to produce the work) and assistance required (eg support of a technician or programmer); Work plan for the 6 weeks of residence; Funding (please indicate if you will have a grant for your residence or if you plan to apply for it, if so, indicate in which jurisdiction).
  • Support material: CV (3 pages max.); Artist Statement (250 words max.)
  • Visual/Audio Files: Images: 10 max.; URL links to audio/video: up to 5 excerpts of a maximum of three minutes. Be sure to provide passwords if applicable;  Descriptions of the visual/audio files: name, title, media, diffusion context, year.

Description 

Studio XX’s residencies offer artists opportunities to experiment and create a new work (e.g. digital art, installation or performance). For a period of six weeks, resident artists have access to a private workstation within a shared work area. Residents receive an artist fee, and enjoy free access to Studio XX equipment and workshops. The works produced during the residencies are presented to the public.

Outcome 

Depending on the artist's needs. Exhibition, artist talk, curator's visit, possibility to conduct an educational workshop.
