Studio Kura Artist in Residence Program
Studio Kura art company with three purposes: organizing exhibitions, events and residencies; teaching art to people of all ages; and producing art. The company is run by founder Hirofumi Matsuzaki. The small artist-run residence program is located in a rural environment just 45 minutes away from one of the largest Japanese cities. The host wish that the resident artist will enjoy engaging with the unique community and environment.
4 different private studios for residence artists to use.
Accommodation for up to 11 artists at a time in three houses. Artists will have their own room but will have to share a house. They are traditional Japanese houses, so most rooms are equipped with a futon for sleeping.
A wireless internet connection is provided except at the residence house. Power outlets are Japanese 100 V, 60 Hz, and the plug has the same shape as in the USA. A laser cutter, a 3D printer and a large ShopBot CNC router are also available on request.
A beautiful rural area. You can walk from the studio to the mountain, to the sea or to the rice fields. Enough restaurants and stores for daily needs at bicycle distance. A 15 minutes walk to the nearest train station.
