No Lugar - Arte Contemporáneo is a project that hybridizes contemporary artistic production with curatorial practice in Quito, Ecuador since 2010. It is active as both an artistic residences program and an exhibition space. The main objective of No Lugar is to propose artistic, non-hierarchical and decentralized exchanges based on the value of difference and horizontal exchange between a constellation of locally rooted cultural agents connected at a global level. The No Place network encompasses artists and cultural actors from Mexico, El Salvador, Ecuador, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, the United States, Spain, New Zealand, France, Belgium, Peru, Japan and Denmark.
At the residency, both artists and curators have the opportunity to develop an intensive process of production, which may take the form of exhibition, open studio, workshop or presentation of portfolios. They mostly look for proposals that reflect on the city, architecture and how to inhabit the spaces from the body and subjectivity. In the same way they seek that the participating artists and curators in the residence can have a rewarding experience with the agents of the local scene according to their interests.
