The price includes: studio with basic furniture and necessities, basic expenses (DSL, gas, electricity, maintenance), taking part of the activities happening at the moment and in the three-monthly Open Studios exhibition with a catalogue edition. The artist must take responsibility to pay for the costs of insurance, transport and travel expenses. Normally the artist will look for a grant in his/her country to finance all the costs. GlogauAir is constantly trying to achieve partners worldwide who are providing financial aid to artists.
In GlogauAIR artists from diverse social and geographical backgrounds find a place to develop their works in a dynamic environment of coexistence, exchange of ideas and internationalization. At the same time they get to know a new culture and landscape in Berlin, getting influences from de city, which has became a pioneer place for contemporary culture.
The non profit organization GlogauAIR was founded by the Spanish artist Chema Alvargonzález in 2006 with the intention to create a meeting point between artists from all disciplines to work in collaboration, expanding their practice in terms of materials, formats and style. Parallel to the residency program and the open studios GlogauAIR organizes activities and exchange projects in collaboration with other institutions such as video art, sound art or performance festivals, exhibitions or artist presentations, where they invite local public, art lovers and professionals.
Every three months doors are open to the public in the form of Open Studios exhibition, where the artists show their work in a site-specific and process based format. For the occasion GlogauAIR edits a small catalogue with texts and photos by the artists. Besides the Open Studios exhibition, GlogauAIR invites curators and other cultural initiatives to exhibit their works in its project space on the ground floor of the building.
Each floor has shared kitchen, shower, WC and WIFI, basic expenses (maintenance, gas, electricity, and internet) are included. The kitchens are fully equipped and the studios have a double sofa bed with bed linen, table, chairs, desk lamp/bed lamp, wardrobe and shelves. They can provide extra furniture if available or, if you have visitors, an extra mattress and bedding. There is also garden and backyard for common use.
There are 10 studios between 22-33 square meters distributed in 2 floors.
GlogauAIR is based in the active area of Kreuzberg and close to big green areas such as the Landwehrkanal riverside and the Gorlitzerpark. The building was designed in 1896 by the architect Ludwig Hoffman to be a Primary School. Its organic and practical distribution gives a comfortable, bright and familiar atmosphere to the 10 studios distributed in two floors.
