French Broad Institute (of Time & the River) aka The FBI
Residency includes studio space in former, repurposed church building in Marshall, NC, on the banks of the French Broad River, 30 minutes northwest of Asheville, NC, and 10 minutes from the Appalachian trail. Open March to November.
Large former church space with good acoustics for performance or recording; 9' x 20' studio overlooking a small garden and Main Street of the small town of Marshall, NC. There is a shared writers room as well as desk space in the main sanctuary. Shared kitchen and bathroom.
Accommodation is available in 2 bedroom log cabin built in 2000 overlooking river about 10 minutes away by car (4 wheel drive recommended) or by other arrangement.
Artists must provide their own materials and tools. There is a video projector and screen. Wifi available through low-cost subscription.
Marshall is a small town, and the county seat of rural, Appalachian Madison County ("The Jewel of the Blue Ridge") which is 30 minutes from the city of Asheville, NC. The French Broad River flows past the door of the "FBI".
