The Chalk Hill Artist Residency will award three residency sponsorships of 3-5 weeks based on merit and need. This assistance provides full coverage of the residency fee. As these funds are limited to 3 residencies only, we appreciate your not applying for a sponsor if it is not essential to you. Please state on your application form if you are applying for a sponsorship. Sponsored artists must be dedicated to their requested time in residency. Sponsored artists are still responsible for their own transportation, food and materials.
The residency fee, including room, studio, and residency programming, is $400/week (57$/day).
Online application. $25 application fee.
The Chalk Hill Artist Residency provides artists working in diverse media with housing and workspace at the Warnecke Ranch, California. The program is interested in established artists, emerging artists and outsider artists. Chalk Hill Residency collaborates with local non-profit organizations supporting artists living with disabilities and they host one Community Studio day with a local art group per resident artist. They encourage applications from individuals and collaborative teams. Chalk Hill Residency also supports artists living with developmental disabilities and mental health challenges. Please inquire for special living needs, for example, attending the residency with a care-provider.
One artist at a time will attend the program for 2 to 10 weeks at the Residency’s 1920’s farmhouse. House rules are to be observed.
Studio spaces are in repurposed rustic barns and will be arranged as needed.
Wireless internet is in designated spaces at the Ranch headquarters, not in the Residency house or studio.
