The application must consist of the application form, project proposal for the residency period and artist statement, updated cv, documentation of work. Current work is requested. Please note their aim in your application process: "The aim is to strengthen, promote and develop a collaboration between contemporary artists in Bergen and foreign artists."
The application must be sent electronically through the application form. Please limit your documentation to maximum 5 MB. If you are sending video material, please refer to downloading sites like Vimeo, YouTube etc. If you do have a personal updated website, it is accepted as application material for documentation of work, cv etc.
Residents are selected by a jury composed of Bergen professional artists and other arts professionals.
The Council of Bergen and USF Verftet offers a residency to professional foreign artist in all fields. Through the Artist in Residence program they wish to encourage and strengthen interaction and contact between local, national and foreign artists. The residency takes place at USF Verftet, an old sardine factory transformed to a large and diverse contemporary culture house situated in the center of Bergen.
The offer consist of a 2-3 months residency at USF Verftet in a rent free studio and additional accommodation. However, all other expenses such as living costs, travel, materials, insurance and transport costs must be covered by the artist him/herself, or through funds in the artists home country.
The apartments (they have two, 21 square meters each) are situated at the small boat harbour at the USF Verftet. They are equipped with essential furniture, linen and towels, cooker, refrigerator and kitchenware. The apartments are suitable for one person each. If you have questions about partner, family or cooperating artist, please ask.
Bergen is the second largest city in Norway, with approximately 260.000 citizens. Bergen is famous for its medieval and early modern wooden city centre, which contains a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A variety of art forms are well represented with museums, theatres, galleries, happenings and a number of internationally recognised festivals (dance, music, art, film etc.).
