Out Of The Circle
Out of the Circle is an arts private entity based in Cairo, Egypt. They offer a platform that facilitates and curates events, residencies, and exhibitions for artists in a two-way exchange between the Egyptian and international art scene.
They connect Egyptian artists to the global scene by helping them secure enriching opportunities abroad, and in turn, organize artist residencies for international artists in Egypt. Out of the Circle also curates exhibitions and festivals on several scales. In parallel, they also conduct ongoing research projects and compile databases on digital and new media art in North Africa to better understand and support these mediums.
The Arts Residency offers an opportunity for artists working on their artistic research to explore connections and find relevance between technology, society, and art. The residency program focuses on artists who identify themself as multimedia or multi-disciplinary artists, however, visual, and sound artists or writers are also encouraged to apply if their artistic research could benefit from Egyptian history, culture, and society.
If the Artist-in-Residence stays more than two weeks, optionally, an event can be organised for the artist-in-residence’s research outcomes which could be a performance, art talk, or other activities. This will be agreed upon in advance with the artist before coming to the residency and will be mentioned in the agreement document.
They offer a living and working space for the artist-in-residence. The workspace is a sunny space with a good view.
Accommodation is hosted by Out Of The Circle’s curator in a shared two-room studio in the Mohandessin area. This location is in central Cairo and a quick 15 – 20 minute cab ride from Zamalek or Downtown, two art-hub neighborhoods. The resident will have a private double room with a quiet co-working space, a communal living room, a kitchen, and a bathroom.
The Private Double room has a key and has air conditioning, plus shared space includes a working studio, bathroom, kitchen with fridge, cooker, and washing machine.
