Ferme-Asile residency in Switzerland

The Ferme-Asile officially announces the opening of 3 residencies for artists, taking place between October 2024 and August 2025.

The Ferme-Asile is an artistic and cultural centre that promotes and develops contemporary creation in Valais and Switzerland. It specialises in contemporary art and music, but its multi-disciplinary capacity allows it to integrate several forms of artistic expression. It contributes to the development of artistic expression and culture by acting as a catalyst and promoting encounters between creation, production, presentation, training and research. It programmes a professional, high-quality artistic activity that provides access to culture for the widest and most varied audience possible.

The aim of this residency programme is to enable artists to stay in Valais and benefit from a natural and cultural environment that is conducive to their artistic practice. It is open to applications from international professional artists working within the visual arts field.

Applicants may apply as a duo or a collective, but the resources provided remain the same.
The selected artists will be provided with a 45m2 apartment and a 18m2 studio. The Swiss Canton of Valais offers a monthly fee of 1,500 CHF. Travel expenses are supported by the artist.

An artistic event will conclude the artist's stay in residence: for example, an open studio, an outdoor exhibition, a performance, an evening screening. This event will be directly linked to the artist's work produced while in residence.

Please note that until 2025, the Ferme-Asile’s neighbourhood is under construction! Noise pollution is possible, but the construction site can also lead to artistic research.

The selection process is carried out by a commission composed of the director of the Ferme-Asile, a representative of the Service de la culture du Canton du Valais, the delegate for cultural affairs of the city of Sion, an artist resident of the Ferme-Asile, as well as an external expert.

To participate, the application must include the following documents (pdf):
• Summary (max. 1000 characters) of the project proposal;
• Short biography with a description of the artistic practice (max 1000 characters);
• Complete CV;
• A cover letter with detailed description and relevance of the project (max 2 pages);
• Portfolio in digital version presenting the professional artistic work done during the last 5 years;
• Letter of recommendation from a professional in the applicant's artistic field and references.

Incomplete applications will not be taken into consideration.

- 15 october to 15 december 2024
- 15 march to 15 may 2025
- 1 june to 31 august 2025

The application can be written in French or in English. It is imperative to mention the date of the chosen or preferred residency in the letter. Applications should be sent by e-mail only and in one pdf file to the: [email protected], with the mention “International Residencies”.

Deadline
The application deadline is 1 May 2024. The decision will be communicated in July 2024.
