atelierWG
Since 1989, AtelierWG has been housed in pavilions 18 and 19 on the WG grounds in Amsterdam with a total of 120 artist studios. The doors of the studios are regularly open to interested parties during individual workshops and open studio routes. The central exhibition space puntWG has been in use since 2006 and the artist-in-residence airWG has been established since 2015, organized by artists from the atelierWG community.
The program is open to visual artists or collaborations, performance artists, designers, researchers and writers, musicians, and curators, for three months. Through open calls, and a selection process, the residency offers participants a private studio and a 70 m2 living space located on the ground floor of Pavilion 18. At the end of the residency period, the resident is invited to present processes or the result of her residency in an exhibition at puntWG, an interdisciplinary exhibition space located in the same complex. The organisers offer support in the promotion of this event and its assembly.
The main objective of the residency is to offer space and time to residents, for reflection, creation, and dissemination of their proposals in the context provided by the city of Amsterdam, and integrate them, as much as possible, into the cultural fabric of the city and our community.
Each artist is responsible for the development of their proposal; it is a self-directed program with support from the local host according to the particular interests of each resident. The organisers' interests are in collaborative practices, the transit through diverse languages and practices that involve the reflective field, thought, experimentation, and dialogue with other disciplines through art. The organisers generate activities for the public and the community together with the artist, as well as content that documents his residence. They offer support for finding funds.
Residents can carry out research and/or production. In the last two weeks of their residency period, they have puntWG exhibition space to show processes or final works.
The airWG Team provides help and guidance to residents for the selection and assembly of works, as well as for the preparations to promote the activities.
