Villa Sonnenberg has a long history dating back to the 18th century. In December 2019, Christine von Arx acquired the property and carried out a comprehensive renovation in the following years, preserving its historic character. In 2022, she founded the «Villa Sonnenberg Foundation», to which she will dedicate the property once the work is completed.

The purpose of the «Villa Sonnenberg Foundation» is to preserve the historic Sonnenberg building monument and make it accessible to the public. The promotion of international art and cultural exchange and the public presentation of the results are important concerns of the foundation. To this end, it runs a cultural guesthouse in the Villa Sonnenberg. Another focus of the Foundation is the preservation, research, and presentation of art collections to the public.

At Villa Sonnenberg in Lenzburg we live hospitality and culture - honestly, warmly and reciprocally.

The cultural guesthouse includes an «artist-in-residence»-program for professional artists. Through the residencies, the foundation promotes intercultural exchange as well as international networking. The artistic work of the studio guests should experience new impulses and find time to develop further at Villa Sonnenberg.

An artist in residence has the opportunity to realise a project related to the annual theme and to participate in everyday life at Villa Sonnenberg. The estate with its historic buildings and the picturesque garden has been recently renovated and is open for events, conferences, and overnight guests. The stay ends with a public exhibition or presentation of the work.

Outcome

During the stay, the artist will contribute in the form of a high-profile event (workshop, work show, reading, concert, etc.). The stay will conclude with a public exhibition or presentation of the work.

Optional: The Foundation also enables the artist to bring in his/her interests and skills to the daily life of the Sonnenberg, for example in the form of a cooking event, gardening, or similar.

Studio Information

The property, with its historic buildings and picturesque garden, will be freshly renovated at the time of the stays and equipped with state-of-the-art appliances. The studio has a kitchen and its own washing machine and Wi-Fi.
