Trans Artists in Siberia: Mutual AiR Impulse in pictures

MUTUAL artist-in-residence IMPULSE is a two year long project, through which an effective impulse of exchange of knowledge and experience is given to the artist-in-residence sector in Russia as well as in the Netherlands. From both sides we strive to establish sustainable ties between the Dutch and the Russian artist-in-residence sector.

The Mutual Impulse trajectory evolves during two years, in 4 phases. We are currently at phase 2: Center and Periphery.

2. Center and Periphery
Autumn 2012 - Moscow, Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk, Ekaterinenburg
Phase 2 positions the art residency concept in a more "provincial" setting, measured according to Russian standards. Ekaterinenburg, Novosibirsk, or Kranoyarsk hardly can be called provincial towns, as far as the enormous size of the cities is concerned, but in the Russian cultural context there is indeed a tension between the cultural capital of Moscow and the cultural satellites. Recently new cultural initiatives are developing, and these are also supported by local governments, museums, and businesses, to trigger interest and raise the cities "cultural capital".
