AiR Platform NL congratulates Ranti Tjan, parting director at EKWC

May 15: Open studio's and a celebrative moment for Ranti Tjan, after 12 years directorship at EKWC

EKWC in Oisterwijk, is known for the many artists and designers who are supported to further develop themselves in a well-equipped environment with clay as a starting point. Under Ranti's often unconventional leadership, EKWC developed over the last 12 years into a thriving international centre of expertise. The residency and ceramic studio's, worked through major funding cuts, moved location from Den Bosch to a former leather factory in Oisterwijk, expanded in facilities and expertise from clay to digital techniques, as well as a diversity of participants with writers, composers, and a single circus artist. Ranti has positioned the EKWC internationally as one of the best residencies in the world, with partnerships in South Korea, Japan, China, Taiwan, and England.

Ranti is also one of the founding members of Platform Werkplaatsen, a network of technical work spaces in the Netherlands and Flanders, that was set up after the cultural sector in the Netherlands experienced severe funding cuts in 2012-13. Together with Lex van Lith - Make Eindhoven, Sofie Dederen - former director of Frans Masereel Centre, Kristien van den Oever - former director of AGA LAB, and Heidi Vogels - TransArtists AiR Platform NL, the network realized meetings and symposia, connecting and furthering the position and visibility of technical work spaces.

Ranti's farewell will take place on Sunday 15 May 2022, during the first Test Case – open studio's of 2022.
The Test Case will be opened by Mrs. Kristel Baele, Chair of the National Council of Culture at 2 pm. The studios and workshops are free to visit. Then at 4 pm, the Test Case ends and the chairperson of the Supervisory Board of the EKWC, Mrs. Irene Fortuyn, takes the floor in the kiln hall, saying goodbye to Ranti.
