Para Site Art Space
Description of the organisation:
Para Site is a non-profit art space run by independent artists in Hong Kong and supported by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council. Founded in the beginning of 1996 and in April 1997, it moved to the present location at Sheung Wan, the periphery of the city centre of Hong Kong, in a shop space of around 150m. sq.
In addition to exhibitions, Para Site aims at promoting contemporary art with other activities including publications, forums and seminars. It aims to establish and maintain a platform for artists and other art practitioners to realize their vision, in relation with their immediate and extended communities, with the aim of nurturing a thoughtful and creative society. Every year Para Site organizes a dynamic exhibition programme of both Hong Kong and overseas artists. They provide financial assistance, production expenses and publicity material.
Description of the residency programme:
PSIAR is conceptualized as a research period of up to two months where participants are encouraged to engage with the local and regional art scene through studio visits, talks, screenings, performances and other activities.
PSIAR hopes to become a platform to facilitate potential future opportunities and collaborations between Hong Kong, Para Site and the participants. PSIAR is a multi-sited program, with a continuous address in Artist Home Base, an initiative of the Hong Kong Arts Centre in a historical venue provided by the Urban Renewal Authority, Hong Kong. PSIAR is also engaged in a substantial long-term dialogue and collaboration with Spring Workshop, which generates joint residencies and related activities.
