Nka Foundation
Nka Foundation welcomes proposals year-round for project residencies at Abetenim Arts Village near Kumasi in Ghana. You will experience the culture, the people and much more. Project is open to advanced students and professionals in visual arts, design, performing arts and literature seeking new spaces to interact and create works with or for the local community. The rural arts village provides the participant with time and space away from the everyday stresses of city/studio life to focus and investigate own practice or to teach your techniques to the local youths, creating the possibility for collaboration with the local community for personal or professional growth. The arts village has an open-air theatre for community theatre production, workspaces and guest houses for your accommodation.
This program encourages the use of local materials and local skills to create works or to engage in artistic research. Proposals for group or independent projects are welcome. For instance, you can work by yourself to focus on creating a body of works. If you a designer, you may design and build functional or nonfunctional works with the local artisans. Or if you have experience as a workshop leader, Nka can collaborate with you to organize an international workshop to bring together creative persons from different backgrounds to immerse in the local culture and create works.
Your specific project may culminate in a community event, exhibition, presentation or publication.
Open air theatre and workspaces.
Room and board are by guest house in the arts Village. The houses have running water and electricity. At the site, you can access the Internet by pendrive wireless connection.
