MALBA Fundación Costantini
Malba - Fundación Costantini, Museum of Latin American Art of Buenos Aires, was founded in September, 2001 by the Eduardo F. Costantini Foundation, with the goal of collecting, preserving, studying and promoting Latin American art from the early 20th century up to the present. It is a private, non-profit institution that preserves and exhibits a patrimony of approximately 470 works of art by leading modern and contemporary artists from Latin America. It also hosts and produces diverse cultural and education activities.
It combines a dynamic calendar of temporary exhibitions with the permanent exhibition of the institution’s collection. Film, literature and design events are also offered at the museum, in combination with important educational work through programs conceived for diverse audiences. Since its foundation the MALBA’s Department of Literature has worked to promote contemporary literature by producing new gathering spaces that help writers to discuss their ideas and make themselves known through publications, conference series, interviews and congresses.
The Residence Programme is intended for foreign writers, offering them the opportunity to stay 5 weeks in Buenos Aires as part of their professional and artistic development. Each year two calls will be made during the months of April-May and September-October. REM stands as a forum for dialogue and literary creation, annual activities and events that count on the Residence Programme as their main management and promotion agent.
Authors willing to apply must have at least two published books (novel, short story, poetry, children's literature, literary non-fiction). Academic papers and self-published works will not be considered. If not a Spanish speaker, it is desirable (but not an exclusive condition) that the author has works translated into Spanish. The writer in residence is committed to dedicate his time in Buenos Aires to work on a manuscript. He/she must present a motivation letter and advance a concise and concrete plan to carry out during the stay. Argentinian writers residing in other countries are excluded from selection.
- Invited participants will have two encounters with general public (lectures, interviews) as a part of their residence activities.
- REM will invite each resident to produce a short text (1000 words) that can be published on the MALBA website.
- REM will arrange for participants an agenda of activities enabling them to know the cultural activities in the city. Participation is optional.
