Paid by host:

Council pays the rates, basic phone and internet services. A fee will be paid by Council (as budget allows) to resident artists for the delivery of community activities.

Paid by artist:

Residents must provide their own food and drinking water.

Application guidelines:

Emerging and established Australian artists and overseas artists, supported by reputable art organisations or institutions, may apply. Individual, joint and group applications will be considered. Applications are invited from primarily visual artists for Birrarung. Proposals from artists practicing in other forms (including writing, acting, music, poetry etc.), especially with a community focus, are strongly encouraged for River Bend.

Nillumbik Shire Council in partnership with Parks Victoria invite contemporary artists to apply for a residency to live and work in either Birrarung, a heritage mud brick house, or River Bend, a newly launched residence with spectacular views of the Yarra River. Both properties are situated on protected Eltham bushland. Community involvement strongly encouraged.

Accommodation Information

Birrarung can be adapted to offer three bedrooms (two doubles) and two studio spaces, one within the house and one in an exterior building. River Bend consists of a main bedroom with basic ensuite, a second bedroom and bathroom, a small study, studio space and an outside workshop. Phones are installed in both houses, with Council covering the cost of local calls. Both properties have wireless internet access with 1000mb downloads per month respectively.

Location

Situated in secluded bushland in Eltham, Victoria, Australia, with close proximity to the Yarra river.
