Call for Applications seeking 2024 participants in the Principal Residency Program is now open, and will close on March 22, 2023 (11:59 p.m. CEST). Applications sent after these dates will not be considered during the deliberations.

The Principal Residency Program is oriented towards confirmed artists as well as up-and-coming practitioners with a high development potential. Our thematic focus remains unchanged: we intend to continue exploring the notions of nature, the environment, and technology and their interplay through projects originating from (almost) all disciplines of the artistic spectrum.

Applicants may apply for a three-month or six-month residency (organized into two three-month periods), which must take place between January and November 2024. The desired length of stay must be specified in the application. More information can be found on the website.

Located on an exceptional slice of lakeside land on the shores of Lake Geneva between Vevey and Montreux, in proximity to all cultural and natural points of interest of Switzerland, La Becque | Artist Residency hosts and fosters the creativity of artists of all backgrounds and disciplines. Residents benefit from an exceptional site and infrastructure, conducive to accomplishing the project they have been selected for, whether it is focused on in-depth research or on production.

The program is open to both accomplished practitioners and up-and-coming candidates with a high potential for artistic growth. Applicants are evaluated on their practice as well as on the quality and pertinence of a residency project specifically written for their time at La Becque. The residency program will dedicate particular attention to projects exploring the interplay of nature, the environment and technology – notions which are more than ever intertwined and at the core of contemporary preoccupations.

The Principal Residency Program offers two residency durations. Applicants can apply for three-month or six-month residencies. Three months is the minimum, six months the maximum. Intermediary residency durations are in principle not possible. At the time of application, applicants must specify the desired length of their stay. Applicants interested in a three-month residency must name a preferred 3-month period as well as a second-choice period among these same 3-month blocks.

Studio Information

La Becque offers state-of-the-art live and work infrastructure for creative residents. Its vast garden hosts a total of 8 fully-equipped live-and-work apartment, an additional 4 studios, a common workshop, library and an event/conference space. Depending on the needs outlined by their residency project, residents will be granted exclusive or shared use of additional studio space. The studios are 30sqm in size with 3.70m ceiling height and offer ample natural daylight.

Accommodation Information

Artists-in-residence are provided with a live-work apartment for the time of their stay. The apartments are specifically designed for their artist-in-residence use. Each apartment is 80sqm in size, with a fully equipped kitchen, own washer and dryer, separate bedroom and bathroom and a flexible main live-work space of approx. 40sqm, plus a terrace facing Lake Geneva.

Technical Information

A 63m2 space that can be arranged according to particiants' needs, equipped with a kitchen and two toilets, and accessible to people with reduced mobility. On site, residents will find free access to: wifi, beamer & screen and flipchart.

Location

The site offers direct swimming access to Lake Geneva, and stunning views of both the lake and the surrounding Alps. The residency also benefits from direct contacts in most cultural as well as scientific institutions in Switzerland and leverages these for the benefit of its residents.
