Established in 1992, Attakkalari is a registered, public charitable trust formed by artistes from different disciplines to help create contexts for contemporary movement arts. Attakkalari has facilitated the development of an enhanced and extensive programme that includes national and international Platforms for Exchange and Performance; Strategic movement and Digital Arts development; Research and documentation; new performance works by the Attakkalari Repertory; a Diploma in Movement Arts and Mixed Media; and Education and Outreach programmes.
FACETS 2015 will create a vibrant platform for exchange of ideas, knowledge and experiences to explore fresh approaches in creating performance works.
It will offer emerging choreographers an inter-disciplinary approach to creating original works. They will be mentored by experienced and internationally acclaimed faculty to develop strategies to realise their ideas and projects in a supportive and creative environment, free of financial constraints. The residency will work as a collective with common technique/ skill sharing sessions, exploratory and feedback forums, with individual production rehearsals to meet each choreographer's needs. There will also be scope for group devising and course corrections during this period.
FACETS 2015 will be held from January 5th to February 5th 2015 in Bangalore, India. During this period the choreographers will create works which will be premiered at the Attakkalari India Biennial 2015 scheduled between February 6th and 15th.
Applications are now open for choreographers from the South Asia region (India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, and Afghanistan). Other international candidates will be selected through our cultural partner organisations only. Application deadline is October 25, 2014.
Tthe selected choreographers will create works which will be premiered at the Attakkalari India Biennial 2015 scheduled between February 6th and 15th. Participants have to commit to be in Bangalore for the entire duration of the Residency and the showcase thereafter. This is not negotiable!
Studio space will be provided for independent rehearsals (limited time per day). Small/medium scale performance venue with a dance mat is also available.
Accommodation on shared basis for the duration of the residency.
Basic lighting rig which includes: par cans, Fresnel, profiles, a 48 channel programmable lighting board plus LCD projector, a basic vedio camera, basic sound equipment.
The residency, located in Bangalore, which has today become a strategic geopolitical and cultural centre, will offer an opportunity for emerging choreographers to explore both contemporary trends and specific cultural traditions and navigate the difficult terrain of finding a unique voice and vocabulary in the interconnected world.
