Emmedia
EMMEDIA is an electronic media arts centre established in 1979, managed and directed by practicing artists. It responds to a broad community by offering affordable access to media art production tools, services, to technical and educational support, and to an array of public exhibition programs. A growing archive of over 1100 electronic recordings by artists is maintained on-site along with a research library. EMMEDIA averages 200 members and 60 new independent productions each year. The centre provides a focus for media arts activity and a gathering place for artists to interact and exchange ideas. EMMEDIA defines the “media arts” as the use of electronic media in artistic, educational and community contexts where the author/director retains creative control and copyright. Our commitment to the media arts crosses a range of media and disciplines: audio, video, web-based art, independent film, animation, multimedia, performance and environments. EMMEDIA offers public screenings, lectures, installations and performances; introductory, advanced and custom-designed workshops; artist residencies; production awards and scholarships.
