Dreamland Arts Inc.
Dreamland Artists-in-residents are encouraged to experiment with the medium of their choice in a creative setting in the heart of Buffalo, New York’s vibrant artist community. Residencies are selected from a criteria that includes portfolio and artistic intent. D.A.R.P is partial to serving, (though not exclusively) artists of color, queer, women, trans* and gender-non-conforming identified peoples. D.A.R.P activities include a monthly artist and writing residency, bi-weekly exhibitions, and a series of public programs throughout the year including open studios, art classes, performance events and access to various creative spaces throughout Buffalo. We also offer studio visits/critiques for artists involved with the organization, guest curators and visiting artists, as well as artist-led workshops with community members. Above all, Dreamland artist residency program values community engagement, experimentation and access.
Artist in residence will build on, or experiment with a new body of work, and will have a solo exhibition and/or facilitate a workshop as a culminating event.
Each studio is equipped with a work desk, chair and bed, most disciplines would be able to thrive in the well lit space.
Artist accommodations include an adaptable raw studio/sleep space in the historic Florentine Center above Dreamland’s gallery space and Free Store. All studios are roughly 200-300 square feet with 10 foot ceilings and two large floor to ceiling windows. In addition to private bedroom/studio, Resident Artists also have 24 hour access to a shared living space, kitchen, and bath. Wi-fi and towels/soap are also provided.
Facilities can be made available, local art supplier is in walking distance, and libraries/printing facilities are close by.
Dreamland is located in the heart of Allentown, an artsy small neighborhood in Downtown Buffalo.
